  Russian

Russian female junior national team is actual European and World champion. As a authorized successor of SSSR Handball federation, Handball Union of Russia in 1992 was excepted as a full right member of IHF and EHF, and on all five World championships since than she had won two golden medals (Bulgaria 1993 and Hungary 2001), and one bronze medal (Ivory Coast 1997), and also one-fifth place (China 1999) and one-eight place (Brazil 1995). In the same period in the European championships Russia has won one golden medal (Finland 2002), one silver medal (France 2000) and two bronze medals (Poland 1996 and Slovakia 1998). As a part of former Soviet Union, Russia has seven golden medals and one silver medal from the first eight World championships.
Russia has more than 50.000 registered handball players, 61 male and female teams that was participating in superligues and in the first leagues in male and in female competition, but more than 200 school teams are participants in five senior categories. Handball in Russia is played in 46 regions, and leading handball centers are Volgograd, Krasnodar, Moscow, Sank Petersburg, Toady, Rostov of Don, and Astrakhan etc.
