JUNIOR HANDBALL TEAM
DREAM FOR A MEDAL

Macedonian junior team doesn't have any success so far, but
this time the team will not be content with the role of friendly
host, and put a medal battle as a target to aim.
Perhaps these expectations are set too high, but this generation
of Macedonian's players believe that, they can make difference,
improve low ranking of Macedonian junior handball team, and
repeat the success of the man junior team (4th place on European
championship 2002), at least.
They believe that their time has come, and that at this World
Championship, using home court advantage and support of the
audience, they can involve themselves in the fight for high
position including a medal battle.
Expectations are high, without any doubt the whole county will
be in fever of excitement for this team, live or in front of
TV sets.
Since 2000 head coach Krsto Petrusevski has tried to create
concept that should bring results. With not too many shots from
the back, much more combinations from the center, useful pass
to the line player, counterattacks, and special care for the
main weapon - defence.
There was improvement during the past qualifications, but there
was no result.
However the real enthusiasm of Macedonian players grew up last
year, when some key-players signed up a contract with Eurostandard
Bank team."Younger sister of 2002 European champion Kometal
Gjorce Petrov".
Year of high-intense training with much older and more experienced
players from European champion team improved their skills and
gave them much more confidence.
Left-handed back, Daniela Noveska is team captain of the young
Macedonian ladies. Former Kicevo player last year signed contract
with Eurostandard. The back line start-up trio is completed
with fast and intelligent playmaker Biljana Crvenkovska, and
powerful back shooter Mirjeta Bajramovska.
Robertina Meceska is line player with excellent defence skills,
and circle of the field players is closed bu lucid left wing
Dragana Pecevska, and Meri Gicheva on right side.
Semra Radoncic is first goalkeeper. Last year she had a unique
opportunity to play handball on top level. During the European
championship for club teams held in Skopje last September, all
three Kometal G. P. goalkeepers have suffered an injury, and
Radoncic took the responsibility in the final match against
Danish Ikast. She made several good saves, and helped Kometal
win that match. |
